Nappy Rash… What Is the best solution?

If you’re a mum, then chances are you’ve experienced nappy rash more than once right?  It can really be  a terrible thing, because you know for a fact that your baby is in pain.  Sometimes it happens so quick as well. One nappy change all is fine and then the next one, it’s like Armageddon!

When you google the best solutions for nappy rash, the first thing that comes up is to keep your baby’s skin clean and dry. Well of course we all do our best to do that don’t we?  But what if it’s more than that? What if it’s the kind of nappies you are using?

Now I am sure like many other mums you’ve used a variety of brands over time. Some may have suited you more than others.  If you are environmentally aware as many people are though, deep down you know these nappies are not the best choice to make.

So, what are the alternatives?

You may have heard of these and maybe you haven’t.  I can tell you though they were a godsend when it came to the end of nappy rash, and I knew I was doing better for the planet by using them. Not to mention the savings that were going into my pocket. The solution I found that worked best to wipe out nappy rash is Modern Cloth Nappies.  They are washable and reusable and perfect for the zero-waste mother.

Some of you might be freaking out a little at the thought of using cloth. Perhaps you still have an idea in your mind that you have to use pins. I know this was always a concern for me. However the modern day cloth nappies do not use pins.  They use clasps and even Velcro, and they are very very effective.

Modern Cloth Nappies are easy to use and easy to put on. You can do a nappy change in a matter of moments and the simple clasp systems make it much easier, especially when you have a wriggly baby.

Not only this, but you only ever have to buy them once.  The modern cloth nappies today last a very long time. I know of one mother who used the same set of cloth nappies for all four of her children. She even rehomed them to her friend who wanted to try a sustainable alternative to nappies.

Your baby will prefer these too as they are skin friendly, gentler on baby’s bottom and also reduces the chance of nappy rash.

Better for the environment

This is a great help to our environment as well. These nappies take less water to make and they do not end up in landfills. There are less plastic toxins being used and you are not adding to the items that are non-biodegradable.

Better still, and especially for the eco-conscious mums who want to go one degree higher, there are Bamboo Cloth nappies. Bamboo is a natural fabric, so it’s breathable, hypoallergenic, antibacterial and anti fungal.  This obviously means less nappy rashes, less smells, and much less bacteria.

Because it’s a natural breathable fabric, it allows maximum air circulation and this keeps the temperature inside the nappy down, reducing that risk even further.

So whether  you choose cloth nappies or bamboo nappies, you are make a great choice. Not only will it help reduce nappy rash significantly, it will also be better for your pocket and the environment.
